Hello Planet Ubuntu/ Plasma for Intrepid

July 31, 2008

Hello all! My name is Jonathan and I’m a new Kubuntu member as of today. Now I get business cards and blog aggregation here so more people can be subjected to my ramblings. >:)

Anyway, I should probably blog about the Plasma packaging work / Default desktop work I’m doing for Intrepid soon…

Meh, I’ll do it right now.

In Intrepid, as of right now, you should be able to install:
plasmoid-weather
plasmoid-wifi
plasmoid-quickaccess
and coming soon plasmoid-am4rok

You’ll need to run kbuildsycoca4 from the console before the widgets will appear in the Add Widgets list.

Wubbbi has gotten into packaging and also did some nice work on plasma-teacooker, which should be available soon if it isn’t already.

Props to the authors of all of these plasmoids, which can be downloaded from kde-look.org.
I haven’t been able to get my backports of the applets to build in a ppa, so they aren’t available for Hardy yet.

I’ve also started working on the default Plasma config file for Kubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid)
Here is the spec + a somewhat outdated picture (has old wallpaper) that gives the basic gist of what’s to come:

P.S. KDE 4.1 rules!
