I am proud to announce the release candidate for Muon Suite 1.4. The Muon Suite is a set of package management utilities for Debian-based Linux distributions built on KDE technologies. Packages for Kubuntu 12.04 “Precise Pangolin” are available in the QApt Experimental PPA.
Errata: I forgot to bump the versions within Muon and LibQApt, so they’ll still report 1.3.80 as the version number. Oops.
That aside, there have been many improvements made since the last release, including further refinement of the new Muon Discover QML technical preview, as well as some last-minute features in other parts of the suite. The Muon Update Manager now shows the newly-available version number in its own column, allowing the version number to be available even if the changelog fails to download. Additionally, the updates are now sorted alphabetically within the update categories.
On the QApt front, the QApt Deb Installer shipped as part of the QApt utilities now gives you the opportunity to view which packages a .deb file will pull in as dependencies, rather than just giving the number of packages that will be pulled in.

Detailed changelogs for LibQApt and Muon can be found here and here, respectively.
User experience in Debian based distributions would not be the same without your work
Thank you
When could we have Muon running on Debian? I use Muon on my Kubuntu 12.04 desktop machine and I love it, but in my laptop I have Debian Wheezy, and I would really love to have it there also. Synaptic package manager really sucks.
Keep on this amazing work!!
Thanx!
So here’s the status of Muon/QApt in Debian. Currently, LibQApt is packaged and available in Sid and should be there for Wheezy. Last I heard, the Muon Packaging was ~done and ready for upload, but I don’t think it made it in before freeze.
So the answer is soon, hopefully. I imagine it’ll be in Sid after Wheezy is released.
Great! After all, that’s better than nothing.
Thanx!
I get the following error when I try to compile:
/muon-1.3.95/discover/MuonInstallerMainWindow.cpp:42:26: fatal error: kdeclarative.h: No such file or directory
compilation terminated.
Also a couple of other dependences didn’t get installed with an ‘apt-get build-dep muon’ with 1.3.1 installed. Namely LibQZeitgeist and QtOAuth.
I’m guessing you’re using Oneiric? You’ll need kdelibs5-experimental-dev there.
No, I’m using Pangolin. I just installed kdelibs5-experimental-dev, and it compiled with no problem after that.
Looking good so far. I’ll take a closer look at it later today.
Ah, I had meant Precise Pangolin. In Quantal that package was folded up in to kdelibs5-dev.

How’s the work on for-purchase software?
What needs to happen to make that work?
I would like to test the ‘Muon Discover’ application, where can I get it? Is there a PPA for it?
